Duties

Help
  • Serves as senior Natural Resources Management Specialist applying principles of wildlife management, land management, soil conservation, recreation management, park administration and other biological sciences.
  • Develops and coordinates District Natural Resources Management programs and policies for all 18 district lake projects, including the Missouri River Project with adjoining Corps Districts, and with other federal, state, and local government entities
  • Prepare revisions and supplements master plans for lakes and mitigation projects in operational status and to prepare/review operational management plans for the development and administration of civil works water resource projects in the district.
  • Serves as the senior specialist and district authority for outdoor recreation planning and management
  • Develops and implements programs to inform or gather information from the public about lake project programs and natural resources
  • Provides technical advice on, or implements, national NRM Corps programs at the district level

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Must be willing obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy within one year of employment.

Basic EducationBachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.)ORCombination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GS-11 - Specialized Experience: One year equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes Experience assisting with administering a natural resources program.

OR

Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field.

OR


Specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required.

OR

Experience as described in A AND the education described in B. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

GS-12 - Specialized Experience: One year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Experience administering a natural resources program, recreation program, AND 2) Park Ranger community of practice.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience applicants MUST meet the basic education requirements for the occupational series listed for this position. This is a developmental position. The duties of this position lead to the full performance level of GS-0401-12. Incumbent may be appointed to either the GS-11 or GS-12 (depending on qualifications). If selected at the GS-11, the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the target level of the position upon meeting all regulatory requirements; certification by the supervisor of successful performance; completion of all training requirements; and the availability of work at the next higher grade level. The Promotion is not automatic.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11 or GS-12).
