Duties

Help

The functional duties and primary focus of this position is the monitoring of Care in the Community including but not limited to:

  • The PSA will function as the expert source of information related to Community Care processes. They will provide administrative and program assistance in the areas of day-to-day operations of the Community Care Service
  • The incumbent will be responsible for assuring that the Community Care Team's they are assigned can coordinate care as needed by working with the Community Providers to retrieve records and assure care was received. They will be aware and adhere to all guidelines for handling patient medical record information which excludes the review of any medical information.
  • The PSA will participate in Team meetings and huddles and will be willing to jump in and support the team administratively. They may work on projects assigned by the Community Care supervisor.
  • They will maintain collaborative relationships with other services in the Medical Center and with area In-Network Providers that deliver Community Care to our Veterans. In person or on the telephone, they will maintain a pleasant and helpful attitude when dealing with professional and non-professional staff, co-workers, supervisors, management, government representatives, and the public.
  • The PSA is responsible for collecting, compiling and/or tracking data in support of program operations. They will use multiple computer programs and software daily including Microsoft Word and Excel in addition to copy and fax machines, multi-line phones, etc.
  • The incumbent will also work on special staff projects assigned by the Care in the Community Supervisor.
  • The PSA will administratively support the service to include letter/mail handling, ordering and tracking of supplies, initiating and tracking work orders, acting as the service level timekeeper. They will prepare needed correspondence such as reports, surveys, proposals, meeting minutes and must have good typing and communication skills.
  • Contact with patients and other staff, the incumbent(s) sets the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA. A high degree of tact and diplomacy is required when dealing with veterans who have multiple health problems and who maybe frustrated with the administrative process associated with diagnosis and treatment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-XX grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Experience providing clerical and administrative support in an office setting; using various office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; creating and generating reports; coordinating, planning, and organizing administrative duties; preparing meeting agendas and minutes; communicating orally and in writing to internal and external customers; researching various publications, manuals, handbooks, and policies; analyzing, extracting, tracking, summarizing, and compiling information for reporting and review; preparing correspondence; providing customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
