Help
  • At the full performance level for this position, GS-XXXX-12, the duties will include but not limited to:
  • Review environmental assessments to determine and project effects of proposed water development projects.
  • Ensure Federal undertakings and projects comply with the multitude of environmental laws including the Clean Water Act.
  • Manage environmental effects of projects through consideration of vegetation, wildlife, cultural features and natural resources including timber, water/wetland, soil, wildlife, minerals, public recreation, land characteristics, etc.
  • Inform management and design teams of environmental requirements and processes, and how to best mitigate and avoid environmental impacts. Develop and lead environmental studies.
  • Prepare environmental impact statements and 404(b)(1) reports.
  • Develop environmental studies designed to be accomplished under contract and participates in negotiating contract specifications with prospective contractors.

Basic Requirement for the 0101 Series:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or a degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position, such as Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Social Neuroscience, Ethology, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for the 0401 Series:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for the 1301 Series:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.

Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes performing environmental compliance which includes assisting with environmental impact statements, consulting for environmental compliance under the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act, or other similar environmental laws and assisting with completing environmental assessments under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Biology, Natural Resources, Physical Science, Mathematics, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

-OR-

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes performing environmental compliance which includes consulting under the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act, or other similar environmental laws and leading efforts for completing environmental assessments or environmental impact statements under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
