Help

As an Investigative Writer Editor, you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates with data journalists to formulate stories, develop angles and create news applications that present investigative findings and evidence. Fact-checks projects prior to publication or broadcast; writes and reports for long-term projects and shorter turnaround investigative stories. Thoroughly and accurately researches all information, turning complex subject matter into clear, easy-to-understand
    prose.
  • Conducts interviews with on-the-record sources and, in some instances, anonymous sources.
  • Works closely with the investigations editor and other editors, photographers, designers, researchers, data analysts, social media and web and broadcast producers to produce arresting investigative projects on multiple platforms.
  • Employs appropriate investigative tools, including the Freedom of Information Act, to find and analyze documentary evidence, including legal papers, government records and regulatory reports, business and financial filings and records contained in electronic databases.

Qualifications

Screen out factor: Applicant must have fluency in both English and Russian languages that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration.

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-11 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Writing, editing, and reporting news and information for a website or video/audio program with the ability to tell many kinds of stores;
  • The ability to write/produce content quickly, with clarity and authority often about complex matters, on deadline and the ability to interpret politics and policymaking;
  • Experience is gained in working well in teams with editors, producers, data journalists, designers, photographers, and others related to this field;
  • Knowledge of Russia's history, economics, culture, and socio-political development.
