Summary

The purpose of this position is to supervise, directs, manages, plans, organizes, implements and coordinates the File Section within goals and budget of the Health Information Management (HIM) Records Service Branch and Service Unit at the Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, New Mexico. This position reports to the Medical Records Administrator.

Help

  • Plans work schedules and establishes procedures. Develops, installs, and directs procedures for assuring proper flow of medical records and reports and their maintenance. Conducts a continuing evaluation and review of procedure adequacy, and, if necessary modifies to meet latest technical requirements and techniques.
  • Reviews, analyzes and makes technical evaluation of clinical records in relation to the standards of the Service Unit and that of the Joint Commission of the accreditation of Health care organizations.
  • Participates in the developing of policies and procedures of the program with the HIM Director. Keeps statistics regarding file room activities, maintains reports and uses them to enhance the Service Units effectiveness in meeting program objective.
  • Assures the flow of medical records for patients seeking medical care and ensuring records are distributed to appropriate clinics in a timely manner. Compilation and release of medical information; researches the request and compiles the pertinent data in response to request form.
  • Insures that inactive medical records are retired to the Federal Achieve Center as required by Service Unit and Federal archive Center Policies and Procedures. Retrieves retired medical records. Provides monthly and yearly statistics concerning file room activities.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) yeart of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Planning and directing general operations in a medical setting: Scheduling unit work; processing and maintaining of medical records; analyzing, compiling, filing, retiring and activating confidential medical documents according to records management.

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
