Help
  • Develops, conducts, and oversees social science and socio-economic studies and evaluations.
  • Serves as the South Atlantic Division, Jacksonville District Environmental Justice Coordinator, including outreach, with ultimate responsibility for the District?s Environmental Justice Strategic Plan.
  • Collects, compiles, assembles, and verifies data, prepares comprehensive analyses, and develops social impact analysis for inclusion in decision documents.
  • Investigates and determines project benefits and impacts on community resiliency, social well-being, regional economic development, and other socio-economic factors.
  • Designs studies, including formulating research, evaluation, or analysis questions, project objectives, hypotheses, data collection and measurement (qualitative and quantitative) strategies, and rigorous approaches for testing hypotheses.
  • Identifies issues related to specific topical areas of assignment and keeps informed of national trends, legislative developments, relevant research and evaluation projects and findings, and other relevant developments.
  • Collaborates, communicates, and disseminates study findings in forms useful to federal, state, and local research, program, and policy audiences to inform assessment and improvement of civil works programs and policies.
  • Prepares papers to convey and interpret study findings for use by other professionals, including papers for presentation at professional meetings and publication in professional journals.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Scientist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Basic Requirement for Economist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in economics that includes 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for Sociologist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in sociology; or social psychology or political science that included at least 24 semester hours in sociology.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in sociology (i.e. at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for Anthropologist:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in social or cultural anthropology.

OR

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology (i.e., social or cultural anthropology), or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

OR

Experience: four years of appropriate experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work.

Basic Requirement for Statistician:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the specialized experience qualification requirements listed below:

The applicant has conducted complex comprehensive benefit evaluations and trade off analysis of social, socio-economic, and regional economic impacts resulting from water resource development projects. The applicant has presented social science analysis to wide audiences including the public, local governmental officials, and senior leaders. The applicant has led social science working groups to develop improvements in the quality, usefulness, and analysis of environmental justice program data.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
