Duties

Help

At the full performance level, the incumbent will perform a variety of reentry and community outreach duties that involve the U.S. Attorney's Office. If selected, the incumbent will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include:

  • Researching, developing, and implementing various reentry and community outreach programs and initiatives; strategies to support reentry, community engagement and prevention; and intervention efforts designed to build trust and legitimacy for the office and other public safety agencies within the community.
  • Providing case management support to current reentry participants who require on-going assistance, which includes meeting with participants, conducting research, working with service providers, and performing intakes.
  • Strengthening public knowledge for reentry and community engagement, prevention/intervention efforts and to enhance public safety.
  • Representing the U.S. Attorney to all interested organizations, in community engagement, prevention/intervention, and developing specific strategies, goals and approaches to reentry and community outreach and prevention/intervention.
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of programs and strategies to complement reentry and community outreach and prevention/intervention efforts using all available tools and resources.
  • Drafting brochures and other outreach material which provides detailed program information and factual data
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 grade level, the applicant must meet at least one of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, or a combination of both Specialized Experience and Education.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as performing assignments to analyze and support ongoing reentry and community outreach needs; developing and administering a Reentry and Community Outreach program; gathering information, identifying, and analyzing issues, and developing recommendations to resolve routine problems; and creating and preparing written materials concerning information such as program fact sheets, press releases and articles for publication, and handouts for meetings and briefings.

OR

Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education at the graduatelevel must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

OR

Combining Specialized Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years.

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 grade level, the applicant must meet one full year of specialized experience as defined below.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Specialized Experience is defined as analyzing reentry and community engagement informational needs to develop and administer a comprehensive Reentry and Community Outreach program; overseeing projects by managing resources and funds in accordance with guidelines; utilizing a variety of communication formats to gather public reaction to organization programs, draw appropriate conclusions, and offer management meaningful recommendations in improving outreach efforts; and conducting workshops or seminars with other public safety agency officials within the community.


Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
