Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the senior civilian technical expert for the Navys Undersea Warfare (USW) Program.
  • You will conduct in-depth analytic studies based on long term experience and expertise in the rigorous methods scientific inquiry, RDTE, and long-standing engineering practice.
  • You will propose technologies and the application thereof to address undersea threats in both deep and littoral waters.
  • You will provide technically sound solutions that effectively address complex problems.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector showing mastery in the field of operation research analysis, applying knowledge in solving practical problems, and improving analytic methods and models using a rigorous application of scientific methods of inquiry and analysis. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as: 1) Conducting in-depth analytic studies based on long term experience and expertise in the rigorous methods of scientific inquiry, RDT&E, and long-standing engineering practice; 2) Applying knowledge of the undersea acoustic environment in both deep and littoral waters that include various bottom gradients, dynamic sound propagation paths, bottom clutter, and rapidly changing sea states; 3) Reviews and provides recommendations on all Undersea Warfare (USW) issues; and 4) Provides detailed assessments on all Undersea Warfare (USW) research and development (R&D) initiatives.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
