Duties

Help
  • You will enter equipment preventive maintenance into a computer maintenance management system.
  • You will assist Utilities and Energy Management (UEM) engineers on the regional major maintenance program.
  • You will conduct studies of the electrical distribution system to determine deficiencies and capabilities, and to analyze efficiency and effectiveness of operation.
  • You will determine facilities affected by outage, perform field checks, write outage notices, and write Switching Order Packages.
  • You will utilize computer aided design (CAD) systems and database management systems to maintain system one line diagrams, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and interconnection diagrams.

  • This position is part of a regional command. You may be assigned to any site or workstation within the PWD Maine area.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrating communication skills with technical terminology in correspondence, facilities contract specifications, material specifications, procedures, and reports; 2) Monitoring electrical distribution system operation, analyze applicable reports, study test results, and conduct field investigations to determine a distribution system's condition; 3) Evaluating complex and diverse drawings, specifications, submittals, standard operating procedures, test methods and results, reports, and sketches; and 4) Conducting independent research to support operations and maintenance as well as solve design or modification problems.

GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Entering data into computer maintenance management systems; 2) Assisting other technicians with conducting studies of electrical distribution systems to determine deficiencies and capabilities; 3) Performing maintenance inspections of high voltage electrical distribution equipment; and 4) Analyzing the efficiency/effectiveness of organizational operations.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing and maintaining electrical engineering databases; 2) Documenting findings from maintenance inspections; 3) Executing job duties in accordance with established procedures; and 4) assisting others in developing, calculating, recording and/or charting data associated with electrical studies.

Education

GS-09:
Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the position.

OR

A combination of experience and post high school education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

Physical Demands: In the course of carrying out assigned duties the incumbent must be able to move about freely, and be able to stand, crawl, kneel, stoop, bend, climb ladders, and lift moderately heavy items up to 40 pounds. The incumbent may be required to perform these and other functions in confining and potentially dangerous spaces containing electrical distribution equipment in and around and production facilities.

Work environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment; however, the incumbent will visit work sites and sites containing electrical distribution equipment. Visits will take place in all weather conditions. Visits top industrial sites will require the incumbent to wear prescribed personal protective equipment. The incumbent may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present including but not limited to: heights, fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, fire, high and/or low voltages, and arc blast. To ensure employee safety and health NAVFAC MIDLANT maintains personal protection programs consistent with applicable laws and personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his or her medical qualification for duty.
