Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-9. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Supervise a team of Currency Processing Assistants who are engaged in the preparation and inspection of currency on a computerized, state-of-the-art, high-speed banknote processing machine; i.e., BPS 2000 OBIS or similar high-speed banknote processing machinery.
  • Prioritize work and resources in order to ensure the completion of work in accordance with production schedules.
  • Issue oral or written instructions to subordinates to ensure their awareness of processing procedures and priorities, train or provide training for subordinates on the operation of the BPS 2000 OBIS or similar high-speed banknote processing machinery, and inform employees when a physical count of notes are needed and records discrepancies.
  • Investigates cases involving errors in work and violations of rules governing conduct, security and safety, interview employees to obtain all pertinent facts, analyze and evaluate findings and make recommendations concerning appropriate performance or disciplinary action.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Experience as a supervisor or leader directing subordinates; AND
  • Preparation and inspection of currency on a computerized, state-of-the-art, high-speed banknote processing machine, i.e., BPS 2000 OBIS or similar high-sped banknote processing machinery; AND
  • Processing data accurately, using arithmetic when counting and sorting products.
For the GS-08, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience as a leader directing coworkers and providing advice; AND
  • Preparation and inspection of currency on a computerized banknote processing machine; AND
  • Processing data accurately, using arithmetic when counting and sorting products.

  • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination
  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
