Summary

Multiple positions being filled in support of the Wildland Fire Crisis Strategy.

The incumbent of this position assists in a variety of emphasis programs relating to forest restoration. The duties require the incumbent to work closely with several Regional Office (RO) staffs, as well as multiple Supervisor's Office and Ranger District staffs.

Help
  • Consolidates and manages project data, providing the current status of multiple plans.
  • Assists in the integration of various National Forest programs of work.
  • Assists National Forests with plan development in support of the overall program goals.
  • Coordinates planning and implementation activities to ensure consistent approaches and reporting across Forests and Districts.
  • Assembles and evaluates program data in support of Forest stakeholders, interested publics, professional, scientific and the resource management community.
  • Works to ensure biological and other resource plans are consistent with and compatible with Agency direction and goals.
  • Assists in the development of effective project evaluation and accomplishment strategies.
  • Recommends modifications to project implementation and associated documentation in accordance with established directives and plans.
  • Writes reports that include recommendations for the improvement of program plans.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: 0401 Series

Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.

OR
Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-11: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing one or more of the following duties:

  • Participate in developing plans to overcome significant resource problems related to forest management, range management, fisheries and wildlife habitat restoration;
  • Conduct long/short term studies and investigations on the use of soils, water, vegetation, timber, wildlife, and other natural resources as part of the land management/natural resources program and restoration efforts;
  • Coordinate surveys, analyze biological data, and a variety of data associated with environmental studies; and/or
  • Assist in planning, administering, and evaluating various natural resources and environmental protection programs to ensure proper consideration is given to resource conservation and protection measures.

OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled);

OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience (as described above) and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).
