Indefinite Appointment/Temporary promotion not to exceed two (2) years. The purpose of the indefinite appointment/temporary promotion is to backfill a deployed Soldier. The indefinite appointment/temporary promotion will be terminated within 30 days of return of the incumbent to the position.

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on powered ground and other support equipment used in aircraft servicing and repair. Additionally, the position is responsible for a variety of duties involving the ground refueling of fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Perform preventive maintenance and repair of associated mobile and fixed fuel distribution system.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, services, performs minor modifications on, and operates powered ground support equipment such as AC and DC power generators, air compressors, blowers, heaters, portable lighting units, de-icers, and nonpowered equipment to include work stands, jacks, ramps, tow-bars, etc.
  • Performs, as required, various duties involving the operation and maintenance of an aircraft fuel dispensing system including an underground storage system and one or more mobile fuel tanker vehicles.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and determines the extent of repairs the incumbents authorized to perform as well as the parts required.
  • forms and/or oversees the performance of lower graded employees in receiving, storing, dispensing and transferring aviation fuel from commercial tanker trucks to storage tanks to military refueling trucks to one or more types of military aircraft.
  • Performs required preventive maintenance and servicing of equipment including repairing and replacing tires, lubrication, oil changes, replacing air, fuel and oil filters, checking fluid levels, and adjusting and replacing spark plugs, hoses, v-belts, and other familiar items.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy, wet and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, and electrical current. Subject to the hazards of engine intake noise, fumes, heat, blast and rotating propellers. Physical efforts to involve climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 12 months of specialized experience in the following:

  • Experience or training must demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships.
  • Experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices.
  • Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Skill in servicing, repairing, and maintaining powered support systems equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and determine causes of mechanical problems.
  • Ability to use common mechanic tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Skill in using diagnostic and test equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams and schematics to make repairs and modifications.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: For an indefinite appointment which is to backfill a deployed technician, MOS and unit of assignment are waived for 18 months following assignment. However, rank requirement must be met to avoid grade inversion. For temporary promotions, the MOS and unit remains with the permanent position from which temporarily promoted.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

No substitution of education for specialized experience.

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.

Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
