Duties

Help
  • Provide leadership and supervise a team of 7 rangers to manage the largest shoreline management program in the USACE Civil Works Program. Ensure consistent implementation and enforcement of the Hartwell Shoreline Management Plan and Title 36.
  • Ensures quality of work, review and approve shoreline use permits, prepare schedules, and make work assignments for team and support staff. Monitor workflow/load of actions in software to ensure timely execution of permit/licenses.
  • Mentor and coach team members to achieve or exceed metrics established in their performance standards. Encourage professional development of team members who deploy or seek additional training.
  • Review all real estate out grant requests, renewals, or modifications prior to submittal to OPM and Real Estate Division.
  • Ensure surveillance and maintenance of the project boundary line, monitor, and resolve encroachments, unauthorized use, or trespass on public lands/waters.
  • Support Natural Resource Management and the Recreation sections as needed by coordinating and scheduling support labor. Plan and schedule patrols to monitor and protect natural resources, facilities, and visitors
  • Coordinate and actively promote public involvement and community engagement of team to collaborate and build relationships within the surrounding communities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience which includes: Planning, coordinating, and directing the execution of complex natural resource and recreation programs and developing and implementing sometimes controversial natural resource management and protection programs, e.g. (fish and wildlife management, soil conservation, forestry and vegetation management, fire protection, cultural resources protection, and resolution of encroachments on public land).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Education
