Duties

Help

The position's primary purpose is to perform a wide range of tasks related to the installation, fabrication, maintenance, modification, and repair of major electronic systems of the highest complexity or which are modifications of previous systems when total system integration is of paramount importance. 

Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member.  Typical duties include: 

  • Repairing, overhauling, modifying, testing and troubleshooting airborne electronics systems.
  • Aligning, calibrating, and otherwise integrating operable subsystems into a functional system, analyzing indications and technical data available on the individual subsystem and the various data and function exchanges between the subsystems.
  • Monitoring the operation of complex interrelated subsystems, analyzing operating trends, and proposing preventive maintenance to assure continued operating capability.
  • Addressing technical problems that are resistant to traditional approaches and resolving problems where errors may be remote from the actual defect.
  • Coordinating with technical and professional personnel regarding operating specifications and changes of equipment.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN-OUT).
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
  • Use of test equipment (Electronics)
  • Theory of Electronics.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools - Electronics.
  • Troubleshooting (Electronic Equipment).
  • Ingenuity (ability to suggest and apply new methods).
