Evaluate requests for analysis from conservators and curators and recommend appropriate analytical procedures.
Initiate and collaborate on research projects within the conservation division related to conservation materials, works of art, or methods development in instrumental analysis of art or conservation treatment or preservation studies.
Act as lead scientist to undertake analyses, using a variety of skills in spectroscopy and other types of analysis and coordinates staff necessary to perform the analyses.
Share knowledge and understanding of Gallery and other doctrine, regulations, policies, guidelines, requirements, and initiatives related to assigned CL programs and projects.

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1301-12. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is at least one year of experience (combined), equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, applying scientific skills to the analysis of artwork using a variety of techniques and technologies in a conservation laboratory at a museum and or a historical/academic institution.

Basic Requirements:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
