Summary

This position is located in the Government Accountability Office. As a Senior Analyst (Data Analysis) you will be responsible for analyzing data to support congressional oversight of cross cutting issues and major management challenges that include budget, census, debt management, the federal workforce, intergovernmental funding flows, the regulatory process, government performance, and tax policy and administration.

Help

As a Senior Analyst (Data Analysis), PE-0347-21 your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Planning, running, and documenting data analysis. Works with teams to develop data analysis plans based on the engagement's researchable questions. Uses data analysis software - such as SAS, Python, or R - to analyze federal agency databases and other data. Ensures validity and reliability of agency and other data. Prepares documentation of analysis methods. Works with multiple teams at a time, using judgement to prioritize and balance among projects;
  • Communicating complex information. Works with teams to interpret results and develop findings and recommendations. Helps non-technical staff present analytical information in a clear, balanced, and supportable manner. Serves as an internal subject matter expert on frequently used data sources;
  • Writing clearly about data. Prepares documentation of analysis methods. Carefully documents code so it can be easily understood and re-used by others. Works with teams to present results in writing or graphically, and describe methods used. Helps to ensure quality of the final product;
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams. Coordinates with other technical experts that lead statistical analysis, survey design, and others. Works collaboratively in a team environment. Flexibly adjusts approach when working with colleagues with greater and lesser technical understanding.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:
One year (52 Weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower band PE-I or GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to independently program in data analysis software applications - such as SAS, R, or Python - to create, manage, and analyze large and/or complex data files; provide advice and guidance on data reliability or quality; and document analyses and interpret results.

**A sample of a program you've coded must be submitted as a supporting document along with your application package. The program should, at a minimum, include information on (1) the purpose or goal of the code; (2) sufficient comments for the steps to be clear to reviewers; and (3) a copy of the output, where data security standards allow.**

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
