Help

This position is located at the 161st ARW in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to perform work in a broad range of occupational safety program elements, such as inspections/surveys, assessments, evaluations, mishap investigations, and safety training.

  • ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161st ARW.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver?s license.
  • This position requires employees to occasionally work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Qualifications

Military Grades: SSgt/E5-MSgt/E7

Compatible Military Assignments:

  1. Possess AFSC 1S0X1.
  2. Possess a 5-skill level in any AFSC with an ASVAB score of 57 on administrative.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: All GS-0018 series personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for that level and must have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-9: Must possess at least 24 months experience performing periodic onsite surveys, to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety standards. Prepared or revised safety instructions and guides. Advised personnel of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes which may cause mishaps. Investigated mishaps, obtained statements from witnesses, and photographed mishap scenes. Recorded circumstances of mishaps and extent of injuries, prepared final report(s) of findings with recommendations to correct the unsafe acts or conditions which caused injuries or property damage.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: Must possess at least 36 months experience of performing periodic/unscheduled inspections of base facilities, warehouses, and equipment maintenance operations and evaluated compliance with applicable regulations and hazard system. Recommended measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies. Participated in planning for testing of munitions, and assured integration of explosive safety criteria in testing procedures. Reviewed test implementation directives for inclusion of appropriate safety criteria. Prepared supplements to regulations and manuals for aircraft weapons safety and developed local regulations defining applicable mishap prevention procedures.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Knowledge of work processes, methods, techniques and procedures to detect and correct unsafe conditions in diversified environments, e.g. aircraft maintenance/flight line operations, civil engineering, motor vehicle maintenance, contractor operations, and explosives handling and storage.

2. Knowledge in a range of work operations areas, such as traffic safety techniques, proper storage of hazardous materials, common laboratory hazards, and building evacuation procedures, emergency/disaster preparedness, and aircraft and vehicle maintenance facilities and shops.

3. Knowledge in several areas of the Safety program to include inspections/surveys, assessments, evaluations, mishap investigations, and safety training.

4. Ability to be responsible for inspections, interviewing supervisors, military and civilian personnel, and other installation safety personnel. Encouraging cooperation and compliance with safety regulations and procedures.

5. Knowledge to provide technical safety training/instruction to supervisors, employees, and/or unit safety representatives on a wide range of work operations areas, such as traffic safety techniques, proper storage of hazardous materials, common laboratory hazards, and building evacuation procedures.
