Basic Requirements: Medical Requirements
The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

You may qualify at the GS-7 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements:
Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-5 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: applying basic inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and procedures, applicable Federal laws and regulations, and practices common to business, public institutions, and other entities in order to select, gather, and organize information from various sources such as databases, witnesses, informants, or Federal, State, and local agencies; perform routine tasks to support the inspection, investigation, enforcement, or compliance process; inspect documents for accuracy and compliance; establish preliminary findings; and prepare reports.
OR
Education: At least one full year of graduate level education from an accredited college or university, AND the education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study or 18 semester hours.)
OR
Combination of experience and education which when combined totals 100% of the necessary education and experience to qualify for this position. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18, then add the two percentages. (You MUST provide transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.) (Only graduate level education will count toward the percentage.)
OR
Superior academic achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with one of the following: a grade point average of a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of my graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education and any other applicable documentation to verify your claim.)
You may qualify at the GS-9 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements:
Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-7 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: applying inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and methodologies, laws, regulations, guidelines, and precedent decisions, requirements of various legal jurisdictions, and practices common to industries and entities regulated by applicable programs, identify sources of information to detect illegal activity and document issues or probable cause; conduct investigations using accepted methodology and problem solving techniques; take statements from witnesses, third parties, and other knowledgeable persons; research, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data and information to make appropriate recommendations; and prepare reports and technical information.
OR
Education: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. that may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
OR
Combination of experience and education which when combined totals 100% of the necessary education and experience to qualify for this position. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You MUST provide transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)

This position is covered by the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement Officers (FLEO). Position is approved for Primary 6C coverage under the provision of Title, 5 USC, Sections 8336(c) and 8412(d).
Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG). Current DoD civilian employees are not required to conduct drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another TDP with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis by the gaining Component.
Incumbent must have successfully completed the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia, or another Federal equivalent criminal investigator training program, such as the FBI Special Agent training program or Military Criminal Investigative Organization equivalent. Tribal, State, and local law enforcement academy training does not meet this requirement. Application MUST include a copy of the Certificate indicating completion of the course.
Permanent Change of Duty (PCS) expenses MAY be paid.
Requires 25% temporary duty travel (TDY).
