THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D2418000 and is part of the CO 140 Wing, National Guard.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Public Affairs Specialist responsible for all public, community and media relations (including international media) programs for the unit.

Duties

Help

Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a diverse and strategic Public Affairs (PA) program through media and audience analysis, determines PA program needs and organizational direction to achieve unit goals. Develops and writes information materials designed to reach domestic and international audiences through various media such as wire service, radio, television, magazines, newspaper online and social media. Targets and services state and national media markets with print, photographic and electronic materials in support of publicizing the mission of the Wing. Provides PA advice concerning the Wing Mission and state Public Affairs Officer, USAF, NGB Public and TAG, Air Component Commander, Wing leadership, Commander and staff in support of policies and programs of interest to internal audiences. As the PA representative for the Wing, establishes and maintains close working relationships with officials of various civic, media, veterans, and community groups, as well as state and federal government officials outside the NG. Serves as the unit contact with the Department of Air Force, NGB, Major Air Command, for coordination approval and advises related to the Wing Mission. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compatible Military Assignment: 35PX or 3NXXX AFSC or able to obtain it within one year of hire.

  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • This position requires a secret clearance or ability to obtain this clearance under conditions of employment.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-1 thru O-4. This is a commissioning opportunity.

Compatible Military Assignments: 35PX or 3NXXX AFSC or able to obtain it within one year of hire

1. Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position.

4. If education or a degree is required as part of the "Specialized Experience", you must include transcripts.

Must have at least 36 months of Specialized Experience, Education, or Training in each of the following:
1. Involving a thorough knowledge of writing and communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to public affairs of the military.
2. Developing new information materials including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication with the agency's audiences.
3. Making on-the-spot presentations to audiences with opposing points of view or erroneous understanding of agency positions.
4. Responding timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university, meets six months specialized experience.

7. Current COANG Technicians and AGRs hired for a position in which an MCR is required will remain in their current status unless/until the MCR is approved. In the event the MCR is not approved, they are accepting the position in their current status.
