Duties

Help

This position is responsible for developing, implementing and analyzing social media in support of museum content, educational programs, audience engagement and development goals.

In this position, you will:

  • Edit and publish daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages engagement with the museum collections, exhibitions, programming, educational content, web content and other museum themes and concerns.
  • Manage social media sites, plan and execute ongoing and one-time social media campaigns and play a major role in engaging and educating online and live audiences.
  • Participate in long-range and immediate social media planning.
  • Assess emerging and existing social media platforms to determine the continuation, cessation or building of a museum presence on those platforms within SI guidelines.
  • Empower SAWHM audiences to contribute to a national dialog on women’s history and identity. 
  • Extend the reach of onsite programming to national and international audiences via digital offerings; capture event video content for use on SAWHM’s platforms; support ongoing online and live sessions about social justice, sex and gender; offer programming to engage audiences prior to and during museum programmatic activities.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. This specialized experience is defined as Using multiple social media platforms and applications to update and monitor social media content for a museum, educational or cultural institution with a focus on History or Culture; participating in the development of social media plans and strategies; and gathering information for assessing the effectiveness of social media efforts.

OR

Education: Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; if related. 

OR

A combination of Ph.D. level education and specialized experience as described above.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Applicants for this position may be evaluated in multiple stages. The first stage is an evaluation of your responses to the online multiple-choice questions that assess your experience, education, and/or training for the job related competencies below:

  • Skill in managing an organization's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube accounts including producing, filming, and editing short-form (2 minutes or shorter) video content for social media.
  • Ability to plan and implement social media campaigns for a museum or comparable educational institution.
  • Ability to develop a comprehensive social media plan for an organization and implement social media efforts in support of a larger social media strategy.
  • Knowledge of topics in American history, women’s studies, gender studies, critical media studies and/or related scholarly disciplines.
  • Ability to incorporate social media analytics into evaluations of an organization’s social media efforts and adjust social media strategy accordingly.

Applicants who meet or exceed minimum qualifications will be assigned to one of three category groups based on job-related criteria:

  • Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above.
  • Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above.
  • Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree.

This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three", but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. A selecting official may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Category) provided no preference eligible in that category is passed over to select a non-preference eligible in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied. Preference eligibles who meet minimum qualification requirements and who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent must be listed in the highest quality category, except when the position being filled is scientific or professional at the GS-9 grade level or higher.
