Help

Serve as Installation Wildland Fire Program Manager (WFPM), for Yakima Training Center (YTC), which is comprised of training areas, impact areas, cantonment, and high value cultural and natural resources.
Responsible for the development, management, and execution of the Wildland Fire Program.
Analyze the ecological role and impacts of wildland fires by assessing actual and potential fire effects.
Coordinate new or revised/updated cooperative or mutual aid agreements to include fire protection programs and fire responses.
Serve as Contracting Officer Representative (COR), to develop, coordinate, and implement wildland fire related contracts such as aircraft assets and aerial suppression support.
Conduct training on fire suppression equipment and inventory management procedures to military training units.
Operate motor vehicles including pickup trucks, carryalls, and sedans, over public roads, primitive roads, and in off-roads to transport supplies, materials and equipment in all traffic conditions.

This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter.
This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 45lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
This position requires an annual arduous physical fitness test which includes a Pack Test (3 miles in 45 minutes with a 45-pound pack).
Position requires employee to obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification within 6 months of employment.
Employee must obtain and maintain Contract Officer Representative Certification within 6 months of employment.
Must obtain and maintain National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) qualifications and prerequisite training requirements within 1 year of being assigned to this position.
Employee may be required to work various hours, such as weekends and Holidays.
Employee may be required to be on-call to ensure mission requirements are met.

Basic Requirement for Fire Management Specialist (MVO):

A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position such as Wildland Fire Management, or Fire Ecology and Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

-OR-

B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture or natural resources management, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

In addition to meeting the basic educational requirement, applicants must also meet the qualifications below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical advice and guidance related to wildland fire management program; monitoring of fire management strategic plans, goals and/or objectives considering the ecology of the landscape; and negotiating cooperative fire agreements and/or contracts relating to fire management issues.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, or related disciplines appropriate to this position such as Wildland Fire Management, or Fire Ecology and Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
