  • This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-7, 8, 9, 10 grade level. At the full performance, GS-11, the incumbent will:
  • Develop topographic, hydrographic, and boundary survey statements of work and independent government estimates.
  • Assist district personnel on survey issues and procedures for design and construction projects.
  • Perform topographic surveys in the field as a member of a survey field crew.
  • Assist with GIS mapping and uploading survey and GIS data into national GIS databases.
  • Draft surveys and other mapping projects using CADD software.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-7: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the interpretation of plans & specifications and identifying inconsistencies or other deficiencies in technical data to ensure an acceptable construction solicitation for various designs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience GS-8: One year of specialized experience which includes performing engineering duties to resolve issues relating to surveying, mapping, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and engineering design. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience GS-9: One year of specialized experience which includes applying technical engineering skills utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) to develop and modify plans and specifications for proposed navigation projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-8).

OR

Education: Two years (i.e., 36 semester hours) of graduate level education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management, or related field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Specialized Experience GS-10: One year of specialized experience which includes applying technical engineering skills to develop and modify plans and specifications for proposed navigational projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes applying technical engineering skills utilizing automated hydrographic survey equipment to survey and map coastlines, channels, and/or rivers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

GS-10 and GS-11 specialized experience is required. There is no education substitution.

Education
