Help

As a Supervisory Health Communications Specialist you will:

  • The incumbent will serve as a Chief of the Information Dissemination Staff leading NCHS health communication, digital communication, data dissemination, and other activities that support NCHS and OIS communication goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and coordination in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health communication, marketing, and dissemination-related goals and objectives, policies, programs, and activities.
  • Provide expert consultation and technical expertise in the creation of strategic and integrated plans and strategies for communication, marketing, and dissemination programs, campaigns, and activities.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with public and private sector organizations and individuals to ensure the effective promotion and coordination of health statistics information.
  • Mentor and develop communication professionals to expand capabilities, acquire competencies, and achieve full performance in their roles.
  • Exercise the full range of management responsibilities, including determining acquiring and allocating resources; program and budget management and tracking; prioritizing projects; setting timelines; ensuring the provision of administrative assistance and support and monitoring the accomplishment of goals and objectives.

  • Supervisory position: Yes. Since this is a supervisory position, candidates must also have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. A supervisory probationary period may be required. Applicants should describe any previous experience or responsibilities which could be used in relation to the supervisory requirements of this position.
  • Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level of in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience managing communication programs and budgets; leading strategic communication activities, including public affairs, health communication, and digital communication efforts; and supervising the work of others to achieve communication goals.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
