Summary

This position is located on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.

The incumbent serves as an Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor with responsibility for the supervision of road maintenance and construction crew and projects, and plans the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigns work to employees, and establishes production or quality standards for the unit's work.

Duties

Help
  • Plan the daily work of the crew and heavy equipment as well as the methods and procedures to be used for all assigned road maintenance or construction activity.
  • Operate engineering and construction equipment on all types of terrains, close to buildings, trees, drop-offs, rocks, or other obstructions and obstacles to perform construction and road maintenance projects.
  • Instruct subordinates in the disposition, care, and use of materials and equipment to ensure safety when working on construction and road maintenance projects.
  • Supervise preventative maintenance projects such as clearing drainage ditches, cleaning inlets and outlets to drainage structures, and repairing bridges and culverts for construction or road maintenance projects.
  • Operate heavy equipment on steep, hilly, rough terrain and in order to transport heavy equipment to job site.
  • Operate heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on all types of terrain.

  • Subject to one-year supervisory probationary period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.
