Summary

Serves as a Maintenance Worker performing maintenance & operation of water conveyance and flood control structures, and other technical support duties for the Operations and Maintenance Division. The position specifically supports the agency's boundary preservation, flood control, and water conveyance strategic goals.

Duties

Help

  • Performs maintenance of dam and levee structures such as gates, barricades, signs, hydraulic control equipment, irrigation and drainage structures, and cattle guards.
  • Sands, scrapes, and sandblasts materials to paint wood, concrete, metal structures.
  • Performs electrical work such as replacing or repairing damaged 110 volt light fixtures.
  • Replaces and repairs faucets, sinks, drain lines, traps, lavatory fixtures and commodes.
  • Installs polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sewer pipe between buildings and sewer lines.
  • Constructs concrete forms for slabs, drainage, and irrigation structures.
  • Performs operator-level maintenance tasks to ensure safe and serviceable condition.
  • Operates a three-quarter ton pickup on levee structures, and operates a one-ton truck as needed.

Qualifications must be met by first cut-off by 5/10/2023.

Minimum Qualification Requirement - To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required, however your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker (Open Until Filled) without more than normal supervision.

Examples of such experience include: removal of scale, rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces and applying coating material; brushing out, rolling on, and spraying paint onto metal, wooden, and concrete surfaces; installing light fixtures, fuses, relays, and outlets; using standard hand tools and portable power tools such as screwdrivers, wire cutters, drills, and soldering irons; knowledge of woodworking techniques and measuring tapes, squares, levels, to measure, cut, and construct and install materials; mixing, pouring, and smoothing concrete for slabs and footings; pouring concrete in to forms and spreading and leveling concrete; using a variety of tools including a pneumatic hammer, and concrete saw; measuring, cutting, bending, threading pipe to seal such things as elbows, union joints, faucets, and shower drains; operating vehicles such as pickup truck, panel truck, flatbed truck, carryall, and sedan; performing operator-level maintenance tasks to keep vehicles and equipment in safe and serviceable condition; operating a wheel-mounted farm-type tractor with towed or attached equipment; using basic tools such as wrenches, sockets, pliers, and/or screwdrivers to perform maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment; reading, interpreting, and fully complying with instructions and guidelines, of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety principles and practices.

Physical Effort
Representative duties entail the following functional requirements: unassisted heavy lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 44 pounds; lifting and carrying of items weighing over 44 pounds with the assistance of others or by using equipment such as carts, hand trucks, and dollies; recurring walking, standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling to work in cramped or hard-to-reach places; using legs and arms to climb ladders, scaffolds, and large equipment; reaching above shoulders; engaging in rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously to operate multiple vehicle controls; using near and far vision (correctable) and depth perception to read instructions, monitor gauges, and operate mobile equipment; hearing (aid permitted) to monitor equipment operation and voice communication; and adjusting to considerable strain caused by constant vibration of equipment and continual jerking and jolting from operating mobile equipment over rough surfaces.

Working Conditions
Representative duties entail the following environmental factors: working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions and in geographically remote areas alone or as part of a work crew; exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, dirt, dust, grease, solvents, chemical fumes, noise, heights, slippery and uneven surfaces, and open waterways; constant noise from equipment; and are subject to abrasions, cuts, bruises, strains, broken bones, insect bites, and other injuries. Follows established safety procedures and practices to avoid injury and possible hazards in the work area. Uses personal protective clothing, equipment, and safety gear (e.g., life vest, safety shoes, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, etc.). The incumbent is subject to reporting for duty under emergency response conditions, and the position requires the ability to work extended rotating shifts, performing strenuous work such as sandbagging and shoveling under adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
