This position is located with the 162d Wing in Tucson, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish maintenance on electronically controlled powered support equipment containing highly complex digital devices and integrated circuits.

  • ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 162d WG.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver?s license.
  • Must possess a secret security clearance.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E1/AB - E5/SSGT

Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess or able to obtain AFSC 2A6X2

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-5: 6 months experience or training using common hand tools and making repetitive repairs. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-8: 12 months experience or training must demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships. Experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories. Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-10: 18 months experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Knowledge and ability to be responsible for the accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures, to troubleshoot, calibrate, align and repair a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment.

2. Ability to perform inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines.

3. Knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify and operate aerospace ground equipment (AGE) such as AC and DC power generators, various types of internal combustion engines, air compressors, blowers, hydraulic test stands, cabin leakage testers, portable diesel engine driven generators, emergency lighting units, de-icers, heaters, load banks, hydrostatic testers, cryogenic carts, decontamination units, thermal bath, vacuum pumps, flow meters, lavatory service trailers, air conditioners and various pieces of non-powered AGE.

4. Ability to perform maintenance data collection and prepares other required forms.

5. Ability to prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluation such as ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises.
