Help
  • Inspect all deck, auxiliary machinery, equipment, and/or systems to identify maintenance and/or repair requirements.
  • Responsible for standing watch on self propelled hydraulic, diesel-electric dustpan type dredge.
  • Ensure tools, materials, and/or supplies are available.
  • Supervise mechanical lifts, rigging configurations, and/or loading/unloading operations.
  • Maintain maximum efficiency in dredging operation.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess a U.S. Coast Guard License Master of Towing Vessels Upon Western Rivers.
  • Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements, and must maintain this license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain through completion of required training, a USACE Crane Certification within one year of appointment to perform crane operations, and must maintain this certification.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • Extensive overnight and weekend travel.
  • Mandatory overtime.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Third Mate Pipeline Dredge Class I (Dual Rate) ~ without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in standing a regular watch in operation, maintenance and/or safety of a dredge and/or attendant plant, exercising supervision of a work crew that may include tender and deck equipment operators, pipeline-man, deckhands, welders, etc., and applying knowledge of navigational rules and regulations in regards to vessels. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light to moderate physical effort is required for continuous standing and operating of various controls. Incumbent must have color and depth perception and be able to see in low visibility conditions in order to navigate a dredge or tenders.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in the pilothouse of the dredge or tenders, on deck, and in other locations of the vessel. Spends most of the time on the deck. Occasionally goes outside in all kinds of weather to attend to duties, being exposed to the elements and subject to slipping on wet decks. Danger of drowning is present in case of accident. There is danger from traffic hazards, particularly in foggy weather and at night.

  • This position is dual-rated to the position of 2nd Mate, Pipeline Dredge, Class I, XH-5784-09, and Master, Tender, XH-5784-09, on an as needed basis as determined by management.
  • Recruitment/Relocation may be authorized, at management discretion.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
