DUTIES:
Serves as Branch Chief managing full spectrum of future digital technology activities associated with Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) while supervising government personnel assigned to Digital Futures Branch.
Leads a diverse team of government, Federally Funded Research Center (FFRDC), University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), and government contractor personnel in developing, integrating, and implementing technical solutions to diverse, highly complex Sentinel Weapon System challenges, with a focus on future digital technology needs.
Leads Digital Futures efforts, to include driving digital technology (DE, MBSE, etc.) strategic planning and digital technology advancement through early design, development, and testing of future capabilities (with considerations for future integration of the weapon system or enterprise capabilities).
Promotes teamwork, mentors branch workforce, and works with the teams to solve broad organizational issues primarily through addressing future digital technological needs.
Engages with a diverse and geographically dispersed community of stakeholders including subject matter experts from across the Sentinel Systems Directorate, support contractors, and DoD Digital SMEs/Leaders to ensure Sentinel advanced digital capabilities are successfully studied, matured, coordinated, and executed.
Leads overall agile planning for the Branch, utilizing tools like Jira and Confluence to plan out quarterly Key Results and other "issues" to refine effort required to accomplish Objectives and Key Results.
SKILLS:
Position typically requires at least 8 years of engineering experience that preferably includes Inter- continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system life cycle management.
Strong background in professional scientific or engineering principles, ICBM development, digital engineering, and model-based engineering is desired.
Depth of experience in leading and integrating engineering activities from multiple teams within an enterprise is preferred.
Extensive leadership and communication skills, as training and mentoring junior engineers will be a key component of the position.
Employee must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and is required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
Locations are not negotiable. The actual duty locations available may be located on the Air Force Civilian Service website.
Testing Designated Position Statement: This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as as condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
Supervisory requirements may be required depending upon the position being filled.
Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management "Practitioner" certification category within required timeframe after appointment.

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (All Grade Levels) Candidates for these positions must possess: A degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, and to plan and execute specialized programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and significance.
2. Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence systems acquisition, development, and/or sustainment; and knowledge of planning, programming, and budgeting cycles, financial systems, and restrictions on expenditure of funds.
3. Knowledge of and skill in evaluating state-of-the-art and advancements in theory, application, technology, and policy affecting systems being developed, and in planning, organizing, and directing the functions and staff in critical aspects of development, production, and/or support of systems, subsystems, or equipment.
4. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
5. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations as well as communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of an organization, and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff through subordinate supervisors as well as analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
This position may be designated as an acquisition position covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The incumbent may be required to acquire and maintain the appropriate certification(s); e.g., Level 3 in an area such as Test & Evaluation (T&E); Systems Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering-Systems Engineering (SPRDE-SE); or Systems Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering-Program Systems Engineer (SPRDE-PSE).
This is a Critical Acquisition Position (CAP). Unless specifically waived by the appropriate component official, i.e., the Director of Acquisition Career Management for
the component, the Service Acquisition Executive, or the Service Secretary, the following are statutorily mandated requirements.
(1) Selectee must execute a written agreement to remain in Federal service in this position for at least three years. In signing such agreement, the employee does
not forfeit any employment rights, nor does such agreement alter any other terms or conditions of employment.
(2) The selectee must meet, or be capable of achieving the APDP certification as designated on the position description within the defined grace period for that
certification level after assignment.
(3) This position also requires employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning Points every 24 months.
