As an Investigation and Compliance Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-14 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
1) assisting in governing a comprehensive regulatory compliance program (e.g., designing, developing, analyzing, managing, implementing) in the areas of investment security, import/export controls, telecommunications authorizations, and/or acquisition reviews;
2) advising and updating management officials on the status of regulatory compliance issues; and,
3) leading the analysis of complex cases or projects related to regulatory compliance.
There is no positive education requirement for this position.

This position is located in the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Office of the Under Secretary (OUS). The office fulfills responsibilities in reviewing information and communications technology and services (ICTS) supply chain transactions and the effects on national security, the digital economy, public safety and security and critical infrastructure mandated through Executive Order 13873. The office leads and coordinates transaction reviews with nine Executive and independent U.S. Government branches and agencies.
The incumbent evaluates and completes requests for industry regulatory exceptions(authorizations) and voluntary disclosures; evaluates mitigation adherence and effectiveness; performs compliance field work; audit compliance reviews; and determines suitability of national security agreements. These activities are performed in support of trade and industry business transactions involving highly-sensitive telecommunications and computer technology and intelligence information to detect possible risks to U.S. security and interests in these sensitive technologies.
