  • Duties listed are at the Performance Level GS-07.
  • As an advanced trainee Botanist, performs specified portions or minor phases of assignments in support of functional activities for which botanists of a higher level have overall responsibility.
  • Receives training in skills, techniques and procedures that are more advanced by performing a variety of productive botany work.
  • Makes studies of plant species use, including studies of plant community and vegetation management, and reports observations and recommendations.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of the threatened, endangered and sensitive plant species and plant community and vegetation management programs.
  • Participates in assigned phases of administration such as budgeting, personnel management, etc. for plant projects.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered qualified for this position, which includes all positive education requirements if applicable. Basic Qualification Requirements:

For the GS-05 and GS-07:

Degree
: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in: botany; or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in botany or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, For the GS-05: Applicants who meet the basic education requirements described above are fully qualified for the GS-05 entry grade.

For the GS-07:

Applicants must have One Year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level; Examples of qualifying specialized experience include two or more of the following: As a trainee, studying and preparing sections of reports on threatened, endangered and sensitive plant species and plant community and vegetation management. Preparing samples and performing data analysis. Preparing graphs and charts.

OR

One full year of graduate level education;

OR

An appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience;

OR

Superior Academic Achievement (to determine if you are eligible, go to: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT (GS-07 ONLY): : If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
