Duties

Help
  • Assisting in the development and execution of IT strategic plan documentation and guidance.
  • Communicating with staff and other stakeholders regarding changes, outages, new features and capabilities, and other outreach as necessary.
  • Managing the IT operational budget including oversight and support for IT acquisitions.
  • Supporting efforts to prevent and reduce IT support issues and staff downtime through management of knowledge base documentation, staff training, and self-service resources.
  • Managing special projects that have a significant impact on the delivery of customer support services such as desktop support, infrastructure, or work force relocation.
  • Leading IT systems development projects from design to support, including developing plans and schedules, estimating resource requirements, defining milestones and deliverables.
  • Serving as liaison with key stakeholders, adjusting schedules and plans as necessary, identifying and resolving issues, and obtaining acceptance of completed products/services.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Chief, Information Technology Operations Branch, you must have IT-related experience as described below. The experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. IT-related experience must demonstrate each of the four competencies listed below:

1. Attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail;
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately;
4. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations

AND to qualify at the GS-14 level:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing the following types of tasks: managing the provision of IT programs and services to customers; coordinating IT programs and services with customers and other organizations and staff; providing end user support for IT hardware and software systems; managing projects for the delivery of customer support services; and providing supervision or direction to other staff and contractors in providing IT programs and services.
