  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination; pass an initial and annual Physical Agility Test (PAT); and must meet OPM hearing and vision requirements to include distinguishing basic shades of color.
  • You will be required to posses and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must successfully complete a DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training.
  • Must successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level I Oleoresin Capsicum contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment. The employee must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for the installation.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Must qualify for and maintain an emergency vehicle operator endorsement.

Qualifications

For the GS-06: In addition to the following specialized experience, to qualify as a GS-06 you must have completed and passed FLETC (see below). Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Issues citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducts investigations related to critical incidents i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviews witnesses to gather information about incidents; and 4) Apprehend or detain individuals by the use of force or police equipment [i.e., firearms, taser, Oleoresin Capsicum (OS) spray] in accordance with regulations or laws.

For the GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducts identification checks and inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives or any items detrimental to security; 2) Preparing police reports concerning incidents and actions taken; and 3) Patrolling prescribed areas and responding to emergency calls for service while adhering to state and federal laws.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Physical Demands:The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, standing, climbing, bending, driving, and lifting/carrying heavy items. In installations with navigable waters, physical exertion may also include swimming. Requires physical stamina, agility and strength to defend themselves, defend others, pursue and apprehend or detain suspects. Officers undergo sustainment training in defensive tactics to include Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) qualification, handcuffing, Taser, and firearms qualifications which require physical strength, skill and stamina.

The incumbent must be physically fit and agile in order to pursue persons on foot over/around rough and/or slippery terrain or obstacles and up and down stairs, and to participate as a member of a special reaction or tactics squad in advent of terrorist or hostage situation. Must successfully complete annual agility testing in order to retain position. The incumbent must be capable of: lifting heavy objects, carrying or moving heavy or unwieldy objects, crouching, crawling and kneeling during pursuit, search or investigation and performing first aid.

Work Environment:Performs investigations, checks and patrols in varying weather conditions to include high wind and heavy rain as well as cold and snow/ice and under moderately heavy traffic conditions, required to wear protective clothing/use protective equipment during incidents and exercises, and operates vehicles over rough terrain and/or unpaved/unplowed/untreated surfaces. May be exposed to physical attack/bodily injury when apprehending, detaining, or pursuing suspects.







Education

Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for the GS-05 level:

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above which when combined equates to one year of experience.

Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience or 6 months of general experience for the GS-05 Level.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
