This position is part of the ADD Navajo, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Special Assistantyou will serve as a special assistant to the Associate Deputy Director, Navajo Schools; Tribal Operated; Schools (Hereafter ADD) on issues and problems concerning the full spectrum of programs and administration evolving from day-to-day operation and need attention or fast responses.
Summary

As a Special Assistant GS-0301-13/14, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Provide counsel and guidance, and services to Associate Deputy Director, Navajo Schools (ADD Navajo) on a wide variety of critical, high-profile, time-sensitive and often controversial issues, related to the management and administration of the School District's programs and activities.
Conduct specialized and/or special projects at the direction of ADD Navajo concerning the functions and processes of programs and operations.
Coordinate special projects on behalf of the ADD Navajo, frequently involving managers and staff within School Districts.
Interact with management and program officials throughout BIE and BIA, members of committees and executive level staff, other agencies of the Federal Government, State agencies, and Tribal officials and representatives.
Participate in and work with administration program managers and ADD Navajo in resolving operational issues or problems encountered in the day-to-day operations and activities.
Continuously keep on top of new or revised administrative policies and procedures emerging from DOI, Indian Affairs, OMB, Congress and other various Federal administrative oversight organizations that may impact the school programs and functions.
Prepare written materials for presentations, meetings, conferences, outreach activities and engagements with BIE executive officials, senior officials from various Federal and State organizations, Department of Education, Congressional staff members, Tribal government officials, community leaders, grantees, school boards and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-13: Applicant must have 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service that includes: reviewing and analyzing a variety of problems and issues that need immediate attention; developing detailed plans and objectives and/or processes to accomplish the work; conducting policy studies on organizational administrative programs; interpreting data and developing executive level briefings; and providing counsel, guidance and services on a wide variety of critical, high-profile, time-sensitive and often controversial issues related to management and administration activities.
GS-14: Applicant must have 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service that includes providing assistance to executive level staff on issues and problems concerning a full spectrum of administrative support functions and programs evolving from day-to-day operation and needing attention or fast responses; conducting specialized management surveys and studies and/or leading special projects concerning the functions, and processes of program and operations; providing counsel and guidance, and services to management on a wide variety of critical, high-profile, time-sensitive and often controversial issues, related to the management and administration of school district programs and activities; and preparing papers, policy proposal and interpretations for implementation.
