Summary

This position is part of the St Stephen's Indian School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a School Maintenance Specialist (HVAC and Electrician) you will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the HVAC and Electrical maintenance activities of the school to include planning, developing, directing and conducting BIE HVAC and Electrical maintenance programs.

As a School Maintenance Specialist (HVAC and Electrician) CE-4749-3, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • You will diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC).
  • You will test for refrigerant leaks and use a refrigerant recovery/recycling station, to Environmental Protection Agency standards to safely reclaim, recycle, and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made.
  • You will conduct visual and audible examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure.
  • You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation for Public Trust position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
  • Must complete a pre-employment and annual physical that requires the ability to lift over fifty (50) pounds. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment.
  • Must obtain and Maintain valid state driver's license.
  • Must obtain and Maintain valid HVAC and Electrician license/certificate.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Specialist (HVAC and Electrician) without more than normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Education Requirement: A High School or General Education Development (GED) Diploma.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT: Incumbent may be required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required. Incumbent must have a safe driving record within the three-year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607 and be able to meet the safe driving requirements of the Bureau of Indian Education.

The Investigative Process for Public Trust Positions: Background investigations for public trust positions are conducted to gather information to determine whether applicants are reliable, trustworthy, of good conduct and character, and loyal to the U.S. The information that provided on the Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions (SF-85P) and the Declaration for Federal Employment (OF 306) may be confirmed during the investigation.
