This National Guard position is for a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) T32, Position Description Number PDD1371000 and is part of the AZ 162nd Wing, National Guard.
This position is with the 162nd Air Wing located in Tucson, Arizona. Its primary purpose is to accomplish the inspection, repair, modification, installation and troubleshooting of sheet metal, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb and other structural materials and components as well as treatment (i.e., mechanical and chemical), and painting of missiles, aircraft powered and nonpowered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE), and monitoring aircraft and equipment washing.
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 162d WG.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver?s license.
This position is subject to rotating or night shift work.
Military grade will be determined at time of selection and is dependent up on military positions available on the Unit Manning Document (UMD).
Individual selected may have to be reduced in grade if a military position at their current grade is not available in order to be selected for this fulltime position.
Qualifications
Military Grades: AB/E1-SSGT/E5
Compatible Military Assignments: AFSC 2A7X3
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-5: Must have at least 6 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use common hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments and make repetitive repairs. Must have basic knowledge of the type of work performed by the occupational series. Provide assistance to the journeyman by performing the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-8: Must have at least 12 months experience or training planning, manufacturing, and installing cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastening. Experience cutting and forming by using basic hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, breaks, and stakes. Experience assembling parts by seaming, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, spot-welding, or soldering. Experience demonstrating a basic understanding of using measuring instruments.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-10: Must have at least 18 months experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.

1. Knowledge of aircraft design and structure as well as testing procedures and prevention of metal corrosion.
2. Skilled in the use of various complicated tools and equipment.
3. Knowledge of metal strength characteristics (annealing, tempering and normalizing) in the selection of the proper materials for repair.
4. Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers.
5. Skill to align and balance component structures and air frame using precision measuring instruments and levels.
6. Ability to assist in training of drill status guard members and in maintenance of publication files of applicable technical orders, regulations, manuals and local directives.
