Duties

Help

  • Assists in program operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Special emphasis is on programs for families and family members and special interest groups such as retirees, singles, and private organizations. Plans indoor/outdoor activities for Outdoor Recreation. Establishes schedules of events as well as the rules and regulations to be observed. Types of duties include, but are not limited to the following: Carries out recurring group activities such as classes, clubs, special events, outreach, competitive games and events, and self-directed leisure. Is responsible to stimulate and maintain patrons interest in programs by participating in the recreation activities; providing instruction for camping, boating, fishing safety, first aid; scheduling camp-outs and other outdoor activities and arranges for the use of camp sites and required equipment. Supervises and chaperones group activities such as fishing, camping and backpack trips. Demonstrates and assists patrons in boat and equipment usage also check out and turn in procedures of inspection for damage of items. Implements and records a volunteer listing tracking volunteer times and programs attended. Ensures all rules and regulations are complied with in all activities. Recommends new programming activities, to include type of format and resources the activity would require and implements program. Gathers information from a number of different sources, including past programs and current popular programs in other groups. Assists individuals with special interests to develop clubs or special interest groups.
  • Assists in promoting marketing strategies. Developing publicity and ensuring its distribution. Sets up rooms to support meeting group needs. May supervise, lead, oversee and/or coordinate the daily activities of other employees engaged in the performance of their duties. Opens and closes facility as required. Collects fees and protects funds.
  • Conducts inventories of Outdoor Recreation resale items and may be required to inventory the base Laundromat resale to include harvest of coin operated washers, dryers and soap dispenser. Greets facility users and conducts tours. Inspects outdoor recreation facilities and equipment for security and general condition. Decorates facility to reflect holiday and program themes.
  • Performs and/or assists in operation and maintenance of facilities. Reports facility repairs and maintenance requirements according to procedures. Assists in maintaining facility to meet operational needs.

Qualifying Experience:

Applicant must have experience, which has provided a general familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities and programs. This includes any type of simple clerical, supply or other work in which the applicant has demonstrated alertness, reliability, and the ability to deal with adults or children. Applicant must have, in addition to the experience described above, progressively responsible experience in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty for which the applicant is considered. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of the position. Position of Trust. Valid driver's license is required and applicant must be able to obtain a "Class B" license within a reasonable time after appointment. Must have CPR certificate and completion of a favorable NACI within a reasonable time after appointment. Motorized on/off road vehicle operation is a requirement. Must possess valid Driver's License. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
