Duties

Help
  • You will conduct difficult and complex misdemeanor and felony investigations of alleged or suspected violations of federal criminal laws.
  • You will investigate, apprehend or detain individuals suspected or convicted of violations of the criminal laws of the U.S and U.S military.
  • You will secure signed affidavits/statements from witnesses and video/audio tape evidence; records, identifies and maintains integrity of physical evidence; ensures evidence is entered into proper custody system and secured.
  • You will develop cases extensively through interrogation, documentary search, surveillance and/or other investigative techniques to identify perpetrators and recover property.
  • You will analyze and evaluate investigative results, organize them and prepare reports in compliance with investigative standards, guidelines and policies.
  • You will receive criminal complaints and respond to crime scenes; process crime scenes (i.e. protographing, sketching, and measuring crime scenes and items); conduct routine searches and seizures.
  • You will identify, collect and safeguard evidence; preserve trace evidence (i.e. hair, fibers and bodily fluids).
  • You will complete lab requests and prepare evidence for transmittal to crime lab for forensic analysis.
  • You will conduct interviews of victims and witnesses, interrogate suspects, develop facts or resolution and prepare typed statements or results of interview documentation.
  • You will conduct surveillance and undercover operations to observe characteristics, habits and movements of suspect(s) and provide criminal intelligence reports.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Position subject to shift work and subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond per installation policy/SOP. May be subject to interruption from meal or other work breaks while on duty.
  • May be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DoD policy.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility as determined by a Single Scope Background Investigation.
  • Must pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all re-qualifications as required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license (EVOC Certification).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must carry firearms.
  • This is a Department of Navy drug testing designated position. Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  • Must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic re-tests as required.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • This is a mission essential position.
  • Overtime is required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting in the collection of facts as part of an inquiry, inspection, or investigation; conducting interviews to determine or obtain facts; 3) presenting facts and findings in a formal setting (e.g., in court, academic environment, professional symposium); and preparing complex written reports (e.g., law enforcement incident reports, research reports, affidavits, grant proposals, audit reports).

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of one full year of graduate education (such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work)

OR

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement

OR

A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience (the percentage of required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal at least 100 percent).
