Duties

Help

This position is located with the Medical Detachment in Phoenix, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to serve as the full-time health systems representative on all AGR Medical Department (AMEDD) related matters, and to function as a key assistant to the Military Personnel Management Specialist (MPMS) in administering the AGR medical program of the state on a day-to-day basis.

  • ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the MedDet.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state drivers license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a secret security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E5/SGT-E7/SFC

Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess an MOS in the 68 series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 24 months military or civilian working experiences and knowledge of the basic principles and practices related to the management of health care delivery systems. Military or civilian working knowledge is required in general clerical procedures; medical terminology; regulations, and directives; medical ethics; health records administration; principles of coding; and anatomy or physiology programs. Must have at least 12 months military or civilian experience at a novice competency level in one of the medical service core functions, which are prescribed as: Health facilities, health plan management, medical resources, health care information management and information technology, medical logistics, or medical readiness (including aeromedical evacuation). Have military or civilian working experiences and knowledge in analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems. Experienced in developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the state medical programs. Experienced in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel and public relations within a medical unit or medical activity.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Knowledge of the mission, organization, programs, and requirements of Army Medical Department (AMEDD) to provide guidance and assistance on a variety of health care policies/programs, such as military treatment facility, admission policies and facility resources/programs, medical evaluation/physical profile board procedures, alcohol and drug rehabilitation policies/programs, line of duty investigation procedures, TRICARE, etc.

2. Ability to determine the most efficient/economical means of medical treatment available and provide guidance to unit commanders and supervisors concerning medical screening, evaluation, and initiation of care for AZARNG personnel.

3. Knowledge of the characteristics of the health care programs to analyze, evaluate, and recommend/implement actions to enhance the provisions of medical readiness for personnel.

4. Ability to analyze problems and present both oral and written recommendations concerning physicals, drug testing and medical material.

5. Knowledge and recognition of the different functions and motivations of various groups in the health care system and the ability to communicate effectively with each in order to resolve problems and coordinate medical readiness programs.
