Summary

Help

  • Plans, directs, organizes, coordinates, and supervises implementation and project teams researching and developing requirements, and assessing the performance of Information Technology (IT) systems and their operations or procuring new technologies to support and enhance operations and business functions.
  • Leads, plans, designs, develops and facilitates deployment of new systems, assessing systems operations, and upgrading IT operations; and provides authoritative input on evaluating future applications and their impact on enterprise architecture and resolutions to issues of systems operational performance. Enterprise is defined as Bureau-wide or Organization-wide.
  • Defines and assigns team responsibilities through programs and projects impacting Department of the Interior (DOI) IT operations, establishing briefing, testing, demonstration, and reporting protocols to ensure customers and senior leaders are involved in the development and implementation efforts.
  • Translates strategic plans and technical guidance into objectives, strategies, and architectural guidance to support systems administration services for the bureau/office. Ensures that critical mission systems and applications are compliant with IT security requirements and enhance interoperability and integration for business applications and IT infrastructure.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: To be eligible for the position, you must meet the Basic Requirement for the position of IT Specialist. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available cybersecurity products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, considering the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the position (in addition to meeting the Basic Requirement), your resume must clearly describe specialized experience that demonstrates the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled as follows:

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government having demonstrated experience. Specialized experience is defined as one year of experience conducting enterprise-wide IT system administration related to Linux OS, design, analysis, and service planning. Experience deploying, configuring and managing enterprise class Linux servers and related services. Experience collaborating with Information Security Teams and integrating information assurance technologies into web hosting systems to protect against cybersecurity attacks. Enterprise-wide is defined as Bureau-wide or Organization-wide.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Applicants will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
