IT Specialists (INFOSEC) are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are responsible for the analysis of system and/or security requirements, the development and implementation of mission critical applications for the agency's Information Technology operations.

As a Supervisory IT Specialist - Info Sec Branch Chief you will assist the Division Director, Chief Information Officer (CIO) and other supervisors in OIT planning the information technology management activities in the HRSA.

Your major duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating staff and serves as expert advisor to specialists and Division Director in design, evaluating, planning, developing, implementing and maintenance of technically complex hosting infrastructure technologies, especially in the enterprise-wide hosting/cloud systems.
  • Leading and participating in the investigation of new and improved server, storage, software, advanced file system and other hosting technologies and/or services and recommends adoption of developments that will enhance the effectiveness of the services being provided in meeting both current and future customer requires.
  • Driving low value manual driven work to automated workflows, CI/CD pipelines and full automation/orchestration.
  • Designing and continually modernizing a stable and reliable cloud solution capability.
  • Providing infrastructure guidance to support application modernization; managing and implementing hybrid cloud infrastructure technologies.
  • Serving as the technical Cloud Service Manager for secure enterprise cloud services including Infrastructure as a Server (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

To qualify for this position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have IT-related information security experience in each of the four competencies listed below:

In addition to the above four IT competencies, in order to qualify for this GS-14 position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of the minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service.

MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance.

Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-13 level include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
  • Lead IT staff providing support in the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of a network infrastructure;
OR
  • Performing infrastructure security management including, but not limited to asset lifecycle, capacity planning, or maintenance;
OR
  • Developing network and system designs to ensure implementation of systems security policies, procedures or standards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
