Major Duties:
All duties performed will be completed under close supervision with appropriate training and competencies for assigned task:
1. Will appropriately utilize glucose monitoring machine to collect and document appropriate glucose readings for assigned veteran.
2. Maintains positive therapeutic relationships by displaying respect for human dignity with patient, families and/or significant others utilizing learned communication skills.
3. Begins to utilize observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording patient/resident observations.
4. Performs aspects of nursing care to meet patient's needs for the following: Personal hygiene, physical comfort, activity, exercise, rest, nutrition, elimination, prevent of skin breakdown, and rehabilitative aspects of care
5. Engaging in-group activities such as off-station trips, reality orientation, current events and other therapeutic groups.
6. Utilizing principles of proper body mechanics while caring for patients.
7. Reports patient observations to the RN and or other members of the treatment team.
8. Sets up patient care related equipment.
9. Organizes and obtains routine supplies and equipment.
10.Assist with orienting patient/family to unit routines and policies.
11.Works as cooperative, courteous member of the interdisciplinary team.
12.Safeguarding the patient's right to privacy by judiciously protecting information of confidential nature.
13.Uses proper safety practices.
14.Utilizes equipment and supplies according to procedures
15.Utilizes principles of proper body mechanics and follows procedures for use of patient care equipment to prevent injury to self or others in all settings such as utilization of lifting equipment.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. or 11:30 a.m. - Midnight; May be required to work other shifts, be on call, work weekends and/or holidays as patient care and needs of the service require. Should operational needs dictate, candidates must be willing to work within other units (including community based outpatient clinics, for example) to assist and support continuation of the provision of care.
