Duties

Help

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and planning for the future growth and expansion of the network and systems, including developing standards, recommending infrastructure changes, and managing and implementing network security measures. The Systems/Network Administrator keeps IT staff updated on the latest tools and processes and provides direct technical IT support and training to staff as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects to analyze, develop and implement short-term and long-range automation improvement plans for the court, ensuring that the changes can be implemented with minimal disruption at all court locations.
  • Responsible for the administration of network security tools, backup infrastructure.
  • Advise and recommend changes to management on network and other significant information technology issues.
  • Plan for disaster recovery operations and testing and manage network performance, security, anti-virus, intrusion, web usage/monitoring, design, and acquisition of servers, computers, and connected devices. Produce useful system documentation, and perform system startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records. Monitor and perform data backups.
  • Monitor network infrastructure and components, including all servers and workstations, and implement improvements to performance and security. Design, modify, enhance, test, and implement standard configurations for deployment of workstations, servers, and network components and client software.
  • Recommend, schedule, test, and validate deployment of patches, security updates, and other upgrades to servers, workstations, and network components. Monitor providers websites to ensure patches are tested and applied in a timely fashion.
  • Supervise on-site vendors. Participate in district-wide network projects. Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager prepare and propose automation funding needs for fiscal budget.
  • Responsible for the Court's telecommunication systems. Troubleshoot and provide support for the court's telephonic and audio/visual systems, including software and hardware additions, infrastructure, and equipment moves and changes.
  • Provide desktop support; assists internal and external customers with routine IT-related inquiries regarding equipment, network, software problems, and user application questions.
  • Maintain, install, and update desktop computers and mobile computing devices, including new product evaluation and software compatibility analysis. Maintain automated management systems for imaging, software updates, and patch management.
  • Maintain computer and printer inventory, and software licenses.
  • Provide training on new hardware, programs, and databases to IT staff members and other internal customers as needed. Performs backup duties for other information technology staff member.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Regular work during non-business hours and weekends is required as needed. Travel to other divisional offices and remote hearing locations, and the ability to lift and move moderately heavy items, such as computer equipment, is required.

As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be hired provisionally pending the successful completion of a required ten-year background investigation and a favorable suitability determination. The position is subject to the mandatory electronic direct deposit of salary payment (i.e. Direct Deposit). All court employees are at will, and therefore the selected candidate may be removed from this position at any time if the selected candidate fails to perform at a satisfactory level. In addition, employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees.

Qualifications

2+ years of full-time (or equivalent) network systems administrator experience that is in, or closely related to, the work of the position and which has demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.

  • Knowledge of IT software, networks, and theories, principles, practices, and techniques of data communications and network management, and security.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals (e.g., judges, attorneys, etc.).
  • Reliable and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexibility a must.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in supporting enterprise level local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and virtual LANs (VLANs), including routers, firewalls, switches, hubs, wiring and other hardware, virtualization technology and VMWare server software, Powershell scripting, Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy deployment, Windows Server 2012R2 and 2016, and legacy systems. Linux administration experience is a plus. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
