Summary

This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of this position is to perform various duties to facilitate food preparation; food service, maintain cooking and serving equipment and areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Duties

Help

The incumbent performs tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks that requires attention to work operations. The incumbent follows set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follows an established sequence of work. Performs any combination of the following:

  • As a barista at Starbucks, you will be expected to adapt to the changing needs throughout the store rapidly. You can easily start making beverages at the Frappuccino station before swapping spots with a fellow associate at the espresso bar.
  • Prepare coffee and tea beverages for customers. Recommend the coffeehouse's products to undecided clientele. Clean and maintain the store during downtime as needed. Ensure that you are adhering to food safety procedures at all times. Cash handling and accurately record customer order information. Resolve customer complaints quickly and efficiently as they arise
  • Works with other members of the shift, setting the pace, demonstrating proper work methods, conducting on-the-job training, and communicating work assignments to the workers being lead. Checks work in progress. Ensures that safety, security, and good housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Performs the following personal work: Prepares a limited variety of fast food items such as sandwiches, bagels, salads, etc. and/or specialty beverages as ordered.
  • Prepares/slices lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and other vegetables for sandwiches and salads. Removes perishable foods from the freezer for daily activities. Assures that tables/work surfaces are promptly cleared and cleaned. Cleans other work areas to include walls, floors, equipment, and storage area. Accepts food orders from patrons. Spot checks the guest checks to insure that the information recorded is correct.
  • Serves as cashier, receiving payment by cash or charge. Completes cash report at the end of assigned shift. Prepares DARs and other required reports as required. Orders fast food items, condiments, linens, and other necessary supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.

  • Ability to perform tasks involving several procedures.
  • Knowledge of food handling techniques and portion control.
  • Have ability to perform basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have a working knowledge or ability to learn sanitation standards.
  • Working knowledge of procedures to prevent contamination, such as the need to clean equipment previously used for raw food before further use and the need to use a chemical sanitizer or maintain proper water temperature when cleaning dishes.
  • Must be able to pass food service screening and training.

All individuals involved in the provision of child care services on a Department of Navy (DON) installation or in a DON-sanctioned program must complete the Installation Records Check (IRC). The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05.

Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05 Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.

Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
