Duties

Help

The Office of Digital Humanities (ODH) offers grant programs that fund project teams experimenting with digital technologies to develop new methodologies for humanities research, teaching and learning, public engagement, and scholarly communications. ODH funds those studying digital technology from a humanistic perspective and humanists seeking to create digital publications. Another major goal of ODH is to increase capacity of the humanities in applying digital methods.

The Program Specialist acts as an expert in matters pertaining to digital humanities, library, and museum-related grants, and grant-funded research as well as:

  • Advising scholars on digital humanities projects and application specifics.
  • Evaluating grant projects and programs developing statistics and reports through analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Participates in the administration of grant applications.
  • Research and writing articles for the NEH website and ODH Newsletter.
  • Participates in the daily administration of grants and provides assistance to senior program officers and managers in preparing for National Council and the Committee Book.

At the GS-11 level Qualified candidates must possess:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level or equivalent experience.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: administration of higher education, digital humanities, and cultural heritage grants or programs; screening grant applications and proposals; providing technical guidance on grants laws and regulations; Utilizing databases to prepare reports and statistical data; assisting in the evaluation of humanities related projects, programs, and administrative problems; and writing articles and newsletters for website publications.

Education

A Bachelor's degree (or beyond) in a discipline of the humanities or Library and Information Science is required (a Ph.D. is preferred).
