Summary

The NIH Clinical Center is seeking a strategically-minded, action-oriented, hands-on, and expereinced Supervisory Health Specialist, GS-601-15, to serve as the Deputy Chief of the Office of Research Support and Compliance (ORSC). The incumbent of this position will serve as an alter ego to the Chief and will fully share the direction of all phases of the Office's programs, work and staff.

Duties

Help

As a GS-0601-15 Supervisory Health Specialist in the Clinical Center, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Setting the strategic direction for the ORSC and determining the necessary goals, objectives and initiatives to achieve the strategic direction and developing plans to implement these.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining ORSC programs which are consistent with organizational goals and priorities and contemporary practices.
  • Evaluating staff and organizational effectiveness in accomplishing assigned goals and tasks, and trouble-shooting problems that arise in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the ORSC.
  • Developing and implementing more efficient and streamlined methods and procedures to accomplish the goals and objectives of the ORSC.
  • Developing, and implementing budget strategies to support organizational expectations; and developing, implementing and evaluating cost saving initiatives.
  • Managing resources allocated to the program including identifying and justifying needs for additional resources or redeploying resources in new ways to meet the needs of the ORSC and the initiatives of the Clinical Center and NIH.

Qualifications

Education Qualification Requirement:

In order to qualify for a Supervisory Health Specialist-GS-601, position you must have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

Additional Qualification Requirement for GS-15:

In addition, in order to qualify for a Supervisory Health Specialist-GS-601, at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks:
Providing clinical and basic research operational and resource management related support for a clinical research organization through subordinate supervisors; ensuring the quality and integrity of clinical and basic research activities for a research organization; reviewing and ensuring compliance with regulations and guidance that govern clinical and basic research and GMP and USP manufacturing activities; and representing a research organization in meetings and discussions with internal and external scientific, medical and management staff, and advisors.

  • This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.
