Duties

Help
  • Operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered backhoes.
  • Determine best approach to accomplish excavation.
  • Assist with snow removal by operating a snowplow or road grader throughout the Cemetery.
  • Manipulate equipment controls push, pull, pile, or load materials.
  • Operate equipment carefully while working near persons, buildings, and other structures.
  • Maneuver equipment in accordance with safety rules and regulations to prevent injuries or damage.
  • Operate 2.5-ton and 5-ton dump trucks to transport equipment on installation grounds.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and retain a valid state drivers license and must pass testing for and retain a government drivers license.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position and is occupied by an agency designated Emergency employee. Incumbent is expected to report to or remain at worksite during weather closure situations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR~ without more than normal supervision. Operating engineering equipment such as backhoes and front-end loaders to dig, pile, and load dirt; manipulating tractor and equipment controls to accomplish assigned work; operating a variety of engineering equipment on flat and rocky surfaces. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Exerts strenuous physical effort in frequently adjusting and maneuvering equipment/attachments; subject to constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet and legs. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of equipment and attachments. Occasionally incumbent may be required to lift headstones or sections of pipe with assistance up to 50 pounds per individual.

Working Conditions: Works in all types of weather on various surfaces, often in an open drivers seat. Subject to constant exposure to noise, vibration, dust, dirt fumes and injury when moving heavy items into place.
