THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION

Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered.

The primary purpose of the AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-8/11, is to perform as the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Mechanic and is responsible for the maintenance of the total system and components. The National Guard Bureau (NGB) title is Aircraft Mechanic and the Occupational Series is WG-8852.

May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.

CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Compatible Military Assignment and Grade are required. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position.

AREA II= Current California National Guard members.

(Applicants who are currently in other Air/Army branches and NOT currently a member of the California National Guard (CNG) must become a member of a compatible unit of assignment within the Army CNG commensurate with the military grade listed in this announcement prior to federal assignment).

Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance.

Security Clearance: at a minimum a National Agency Check is required.

Qualifications

General Experience: Possess experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-08 (Trainee): Must have at least 12 months experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.

AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-11: Must have at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

TRAINEE POSITION: Applicants not meeting full qualifications for the WG-11 position indicated above may be considered for WG-08 trainee, if qualified. Statement-of-Difference of qualification requirements for each are indicated. If appointed as trainee, the selectee may be non-competitively promoted to WG-11 upon meeting full qualifications and recommendations of supervisor.
