ZP-III: The candidate selected will provide research support for measurement and evaluation of Trustworthy and Responsible AI systems, concepts and practices. Perform novel research related to understanding and assessing the impact of AI systems on society, and evaluating socio-technical AI systems in operational environments. Perform best practice research through information modeling, advanced optimization techniques, modeling and simulation, and data analytics. Support requirements elicitation and validation of results through industry stakeholder engagement to build trust, ensure utility and adoption of tools and methods. Co-develop guidance for critical interpretation and practical implementation of Trustworthy and Responsible AI. Share results in peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and standards organizations.

ZP-IV: The candidate selected will plan, lead and conduct research for measurement and evaluation of Trustworthy and Responsible AI systems, concepts and practices. Propose, justify and develop novel research programs and projects related to understanding and assessing the impact of AI systems on society, and evaluating socio-technical AI systems in operational environments. Guide colleagues in carrying out best practice research through information modeling, advanced optimization techniques, modeling and simulation, and data analytics. Elicit requirements and validate results through industry stakeholder engagement to build trust, ensure utility and adoption of tools and methods. Publish guidance for critical interpretation and practical implementation of Trustworthy and Responsible AI. Share results in peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and standards organizations.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

For ZP-3: In addition to the above basic requirements: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with Trustworthy and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts such as Fairness and Explainability, and machine learning modeling techniques. Experience with effective written and oral communication to explain, justify, or discuss a variety of public issues.

FOR ZP-4:

Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-12 level (ZP-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with computational social science methods; Trustworthy and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts such as Fairness and Explainability; specialized machine learning modeling techniques, and working with structured and unstructured data. Experience with effectively communicating highly complex technical material and topics related to AI, facilitating the formulation of a decision. Experience with effective written communication to explain, justify, or discuss a variety of public issues.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
