Duties

Help
  • You will develop (recruit, retain, and lead) a staff of collaborative and contributing engineers, researchers, and technicians required to support the above duties.
  • You will develop and defend recommendations regarding continued system development and fleet deployment.

Qualifications

You will serve as the Section Head of the Airborne Electronics Payload Research Section in the Tactical Electronic Warfare Division of the NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Position requires demonstrated surface and air domain experience in RF decoy system, sub-system, and component research and development; RF decoy concepts development; and measurement and characterization of EW systems in support of new offboard ECM systems.

In addition to the Basic Education and Selective Placement Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11/13 grade level or NP-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Determining the strategic directions for Section research; 2.) Organizing and performing research; (3) Scheduling test assets and planning laboratory and field test events; (4) Coordinating with both internal and external sources to provide recommendations on countermeasures; (5) Supervising the operation, maintenance and modification of radio frequency measurement facilities; and (6) Making recommendations regarding system development and fleet deployment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

For the 0830, 0850, and 0855 series: Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

1550 Series:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science
OR
  • Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

1310 Series:
  • Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
  • Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
