Duties

Help

The Information Technology Specialist (DATAMGT), located in the office of Office of Data and Analytics (ODA). is responsible for helping the VA ensure that veterans and their families receive care, support, and recognition earned through service to their country. The OIG supports the VA's vision by working with VA management teams to identify and address important issues. This position is responsible for providing automated data processing and analysis as well as advanced electronic data processing support to all directorates within the OIG, including the: Office of Investigations, Office of Audit, Office of Management and Administration, Office of Healthcare Inspections, and the Counselor to the Inspector General.

As an Information Technology Specialist (DATAMGT), you will:

  • Provide OIG components with comprehensive data analysis support.
  • Serve as an expert in the interpretation of policies, procedures, and guidelines governing the provision of database management and data analysis support throughout the OIG.
  • Lead project teams in response to requests for data analysis support; plans and coordinates project design, development, and implementation including new data management schema, data structures, and access strategies in alignment with specific requests and overall OIG mission requirements.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Experience with computer programming techniques using analytics software; AND
  • Experience using programming techniques and software for working with large data files; AND
  • Experience in data analysis and advanced analytic techniques in predictive analysis, data mining and business intelligence; AND
  • Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis and clearly reporting findings.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (e.g., technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

- A one year probationary period may be required.
